Apparently in an effort to reduce the risk of SIDS and suffocation etc, they recommend that you don't have a bumper in your crib because of the risk of the baby rolling into it and because it cuts down on the oxygen flow of the crib. You learn all kinds of interesting things in that class.:) I think it's just one of those better safe than sorry situations.
